Artist Biography

Marian JA Vieux is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the relationships between ecology, memory, and place through collage, mixed media, digital imagery, assemblage, and Land Art. Her practice combines natural and industrial materials to create works that reflect the interconnectedness of human experience and the environment.

Originally based in Kansas, JA Vieux earned an M.A. in Silversmithing and Sculpture and M.F.A. in Art and Design, where she developed her distinctive approach to ephemeral Land Art. Following her move to Wisconsin, the forests, wetlands, and surrounding Great Lakes became the primary inspiration for her artistic practice.

JA Vieux has served as an artist-in-residence for colleges and public art programs and has received residencies including MacDowell Foundation in New Hampshire, Ossabaw Island foundation, Georgia, and Lake Forest College, IL. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally published in Public Art Proposals, Ecology and Art, the International Sculpture Center and NICAF in Yokohama Japan, and Inland Architect magazine in Chicago.

Today, Marian JA Vieux lives and works near Lake Michigan, creating two-and three dimensional works that merge visual poetry with ecological inquiry. Through layered processes and the integration of natural and industrial materials, her work reflects an ongoing exploration of how we shape—and are shaped by—the forests, wetlands, and landscapes we share.
